The role of music-induced emotions on recognition memory of filmed events

The present study investigated the effects of pairing a comedic movie trailer with emotive music on subsequent recognition memory events depicted in trailer. In an independent groups design, was paired happy (congruent condition) or sad (incongruent condition). A no condition served as control condition. results showed that participants incongruent displayed advantage for visual test items over congruent and conditions. While changes self-reported positive negative affect did not correlate significantly memory, perception emotion-specific categories did. These findings help to establish empirical basis ironic contrast techniques propose affective component integration representation audiovisual action is likely emerge where participant perceives recognizes expressed emotions music, without necessarily feeling overall affect.
